Emma Pimentel

2026 Trottier Intern, Student at McGill University

Emma has just finished her 2nd year at McGill University majoring in Physics with a minor in Computer Science. She’s excited to take on a new research area and learn more about exoplanets. This summer she has the opportunity to work in Professor René Doyon’s group. She will be determining the mass of the exoplanet K2-3 d using radial velocity data from the ESPRESSO spectrograph and providing a physical interpretation of whether it’s a rocky, gaseous, or a volatile-rich water world.

Emma developed an interest in astronomy during her adolescent years when she would read about the mythological stories hidden in the constellations. This interest combined with her love for maths and sciences drove her to pursue a degree in physics and explore various cool areas like black holes and, this summer, exoplanets.
