Katherine Thibault

M.Sc. Student, Université de Montréal

Katherine is a master’s student at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of David Lafrenière. Her project is to search for giant planets around white dwarf stars using the James Webb Space Telescope’s MIRI instrument. She uses a technique called “Kernel Phase Imaging” (KPI) to verify whether planets can be found around white dwarfs, which would indicate that they can survive the cataclysm that is the ejection of the stellar envelope at the end of a star’s life.

Before to start graduate school, Katherine obtained a major in physics at the Université de Montréal in the fall of 2021. She also has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, which she obtained in 2019 at the Université de Sherbrooke.

Katherine is also interested in education and science communication. In particular, she was involved in a few activities organized for high school and college students such as career days.
