Penelope Manolache

2026 Trottier Intern, Student at McGill University

Penelope Manolache is a 2nd-year undergraduate Physics student at McGill University. She developed a curiosity for astronomy at a young age, fuelled by books, documentaries, and her awe when viewing the cosmos from the dark sky park at Cherry Springs. This interest is precisely what drew her into the field of physics. For years, she has looked forward to participating in astrophysics research and advancing her knowledge of how the universe functions and evolves.

This summer, Penelope will be working under the supervision of Patrick Dufour to analyze spectroscopic data from white dwarf stars polluted with heavy elements. She is very excited for the opportunity to take part in this research, and looks forward to working with him and the IREx community to strengthen our understanding of these stars.
