The Université de Montréal’s Éclipse team, co-led by members of iREx, has won gold in the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) Prix d’Excellence competition, in the category of Best Special Event. These awards recognize outstanding achievements by Canadian higher education institutions in a variety of fields.
Initiated by astrophysicists from our outreach team, the group also included members from several UdeM units, including the Bureau des communications et de relations publiques, the Bibliothèques, the École d’optométrie, the Faculté des arts et des sciences, the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire, as well as the Réseau des diplômés et des donateurs.

Previously honoured with a Rector’s Award in the Collaboration category, our team led several initiatives surrounding the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024. Among other accomplishments, we made it possible for thousands of people to safely witness the eclipse at CEPSUM, equipped with protective glasses.
The award ceremony took place in July and was streamed online.
