Solar eclipses are rare and unique astronomical phenomena! iREx members love this phenomenon, and it’s the perfect opportunity to share their passion for astronomy.

In 2023-2024, two solar eclipses will be visible from Montreal, where most of our members are located.

At iREx :

  • We spearheaded the creation of the Eclipse Ambassadors Training Program, an innovative program that empowers young university students to act as leaders in solar eclipse issues.
  • We’re currently recording “E comme Éclipse”, a series of video capsules to talk about eclipses with the small screen, which will be online on our YouTube channel from September 22, 2023, as part of Science Culture Week.
  • We’re organizing AstroMIL 2023, Solar Wink, on October 14, 2023, to watch the partial eclipse with us at the MIL campus of Université de Montréal.
  • We’re part of the Regroupement éclipse Québec, which among other things created the Quebec reference site for the eclipse of April 8, 2024: www.eclipsequebec.ca/en.
  • We are actively involved in all initiatives and events surrounding the eclipse of April 8, 2024 at the Université de Montréal (coming soon!)
