Are you a high school student? The Observatoire du Mont-Mégantic and the Institute for research in exoplanets invite you to spend a night at the telescope of Observatoire du Mont-Mégantic, with astronomers who will introduce you to their fascinating job.
The observatory, located in the Eastern Townships region, includes a 1.6-meter telescope allowing high-level scientific research and training of world-class astronomers. The night of observation will take place sometime in the summer of 2018 (July 6, July 13, July 14, July 20, July 21 or August 24 or 25). Astronomers work at night when it’s dark! If you are selected, an adult will have to accompany you to the observatory. You will visit the telescope, observe the work of the astronomers and actively participate in the observation during the night. To participate, simply complete the online form below. You will need to tell us in a few lines why you are interested in science and why you would like to do this internship.
To be eligible to the contest, you must be a resident of Quebec and be in high school during the 2017-2018 school year. Two (2) winners will be chosen randomly from among the applications received: one of who will be in Secondary 1, 2 or 3 in 2017-2018, and one will be in secondary 4 or 5 in 2017-2018. An adult must accompany you during the night of observation. The night of observation will take place at the Observatoire du Mont-Mégantic telescope, located at 189 Route du Parc, Notre-Dame-des-Bois, QC J0B 2E0, on July 6, July 13, July 14, July 20, July 21, August 24 or 25. Dinner, snacks, and breakfast are included. You will have a room at the residence of the astronomers close to the telescope. Once the observations finished, you will be able to rest there before returning home. The contest begins 23 May 2017 at 5:00 pm and ends on 17 June 2017 at 11:00 pm. The draw of the winners will take place on 18 June 2017. Winners will be contacted by e-mail.
