iREx Alum Marylou Fournier Tondreau wins Academic Medal from the Governor General of Canada

Marylou Fournier Tondreau, a previous iREx Master’s student, has been awarded the prestigious Governor General of Canada’s Academic Medal.

Created in 1873 by Lord Dufferin, the Governor General’s Academic Medal is the most prestigious award for academic excellence in Canada. Marylou has been recognized for her outstanding scholastic achievements, including her Master’s thesis on the impact of starspots on characterizing exoplanet atmospheres using transit spectroscopy with the James Webb Space Telescope.

Marylou’s achievement underscores her exceptional dedication and contributions to the field of astronomy. This accolade places her among notable past recipients such as Gabrielle Roy and Tommy Douglas, celebrating a tradition of excellence that spans nearly 150 years.

Marylou is currently a Claredon Scholar at the University of Oxford, pursuing her Ph.D. in Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics.
