Laurie Lamy-Proulx

Laurie is a master’s student in solar physics at the Université de Montréal since September 2024, under the co-supervision of Professors Paul Charbonneau and Alexandre Lemerle. She is working on improving solar dynamo models by formally inverting the Sun’s internal meridional circulation using a genetic evolutionary algorithm. Her project aims to deepen our understanding of the internal mechanisms that drive the Sun’s magnetic activity cycle, in order to improve space weather forecasting and apply this knowledge to the study of magnetism in other stars.

Laurie completed her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics at the Université de Montréal in the winter of 2024. During her undergraduate studies, she completed a summer research internship in particle physics under the supervision of Professor Claude Leroy, contributing to luminosity measurements for the ATLAS detector experiment at CERN’s LHC collider.

Alongside her studies, Laurie worked as a teaching assistant for several undergraduate physics courses at the Université de Montréal, an experience that strengthened her passion for science communication and education. She is also interested in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the scientific community.
