Earlier this year, we were thrilled to learn that the InitiaSciences team won the regional section of the Défi OSEntreprendre Montréal for the project “Initier les jeunes à la recherche scientifique” (Initiating young people to scientific research), in the University ― Group (4 or more people) category, with the Université de Montréal!
Caroline Piaulet, one of our members who is a doctoral student at the Université de Montréal, is the project’s founder. In June 2021, she and a small group of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, including Thomas Vandal, another of our members who is also a doctoral student at UdeM, founded InitiaSciences. Their mission: to demystify scientific research for students in high school and CEGEP.
This initiative, unique in Quebec, will allow students to acquire real experience in research accompanied by young researchers, starting this academic year. Caroline and André Beaudoin, one of our M.Sc. students, are part of the first cohort of mentors. Throughout the year, they will work with a team of high school and CEGEP students and teach them the basics of exoplanet research.
The iREx is a proud partner in the initiative, and Marie-Eve Naud, our Education and Public Outreach Coordinator, joined the team as an advisor in October 2021.
The entire iREx team is very proud of the leadership and initiative shown by the members involved in this innovative project. Congratulations!
