Andrea is in her third year of a bachelor’s degree in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo. Andrea’s interest in physics stems from her admiration for the ability of her physics professors to “think like a physicist” – a way of approaching problems that she hopes to adopt. The more she learns about the universe and human attempts to solve its mysteries, the more her love for astronomy deepens.
This summer, Andrea is grateful for the opportunity to assist Dr. Loïc Albert in the search for exoplanets around white dwarfs using data from the James Webb Space Telescope. She will help analyze 44 white dwarfs using a PSF-fitting code based on Bayesian inference, model systems with candidate planets through spectral fitting, and inject simulated planets to evaluate the sensitivity of the sample and place statistical constraints on the presence of planets.
