2025 Trottier Summer Intern, Université Laval B.Sc. Student

Charles-Antoine is a second-year undergraduate student in physics at Université Laval. Passionate about the universe, astronomy and mathematics since he was young, he naturally turned to studying physics.

In the summer of 2024, he completed an internship at Université Laval, working with Professor Carmelle Robert on detecting HII regions in the M95 galaxy, as part of the SIGNALS survey. This project focused on studying the properties and characteristics of star-forming regions in nearby galaxies. This research experience allowed him to deepen his knowledge and strengthened his interest in astrophysics. Subsequently, during the winter 2025 semester, he analysed, under the supervision of Professor Hugo Martel and in collaboration with Professor Laurent Drissen, numerical simulations of interacting galaxies in the Arp 143 system as part of an undergraduate research course.

This summer, he will work with Professor Patrick Dufour and researcher Étienne Artigau on the study of the star system TYC 3980-1081-1, which comprises a white dwarf and a red dwarf forming an atypical binary system. This project will provide a unique opportunity to analyse the dynamic and chemical evolution of a tight binary system by combining spectroscopy, modelling and observational analysis to better understand the evolution of this stellar system.
