Dhvani Doshi

MSc student, McGill University

Dhvani has started her MSc under the supervision of Nicolas Cowan at McGill University in the Fall of 2023. Her research interests include exoplanetary atmospheres, machine learning techniques, and precision radial velocity.

Currently, she is using machine learning techniques to improve precision radial velocity measurements of exoplanets. This will help enable researchers to enhance the precision of exoplanet detection and differentiate genuine exoplanet signals from other signal types. It will further provide better constraints on planetary parameters such as the planet’s mass.

Dhvani’s thesis project during her BSc at the University of Waterloo involved extracting 2D-thermal profiles of hot Jupiters using spectral retrieval. Moreover, during her iREx internship in 2021, she led a study to understand if Earth-like stratospheric clouds would be detectable on exoplanetary atmospheres.

She has also worked extensively in outreach, most notably in her role as a Bayside Astronomy Program Manager. Here, she developed astronomy programs for hundreds of tourists which involved talks and showing visitors objects through various telescopes.
