Lisa Đặng, an iREx member who completed her Ph.D. at McGill University this summer, was awarded the prestigious Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) on November 28, 2022. It is at the Université de Montréal that Ms. Đặng will hold this fellowship.
This year, in the natural sciences and engineering, 24 of the 169 nominations submitted were successful. Lisa Đặng is one of two astronomers awarded a fellowship this year, with her project entitled “Into the origin of planets via atmospheric characterization: exoplanets as context for understanding the solar system history”
This is the second award this month for Ms. Đặng, who received a L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowship last week. This will allow her to focus on her research on exoplanets. She is especially interested in hot Jupiters, gas giants that lie very close to their star, and lava planets, smaller, rocky planets that also lie very close to their star.
All of us at iREx are delighted that Dr. Đặng will remain on the team and congratulate her on this new distinction.
Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships are offered annually to the best researchers from around the world to remain leaders in their field of research and contribute to the economic, social, and scientific advancement from Canada. Fellowships are distributed equally among the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
