Salma Salhi

PhD student, Université de Montréal

Salma started her PhD studies at the Université de Montréal in September 2025, under the joint supervision of René Doyon and Laurence Perreault-Levasseur, after an MSc degree completed with the same advisors.

Her research focuses on applications of machine learning techniques such as deep learning to exoplanet research, specifically to improve the efficiency of noise removal during data analysis.

Salma obtained an Honours Astrophysics degree from the University of Calgary in 2023 and completed an internship at iREx in the summer of 2022, where she assisted with the data analysis on several Trappist-1 planets. She quantified the out-of-transit linear slopes of the planets’ light curves and helped identify stellar contamination in their spectra.
