Sophie, passionate about astronomy since childhood, is completing her first year of a bachelor’s degree in physics at the University of Montreal. During her first internship last summer with Clémence Fontanive and René Doyon, where she analyzed the masses of exoplanets and brown dwarfs detected by direct imaging, she confirmed her keen interest in astrophysics research.
This time, under the supervision of Professor Doyon, she will be using SPIRou data to measure the abundance of iron, particularly in the star TRAPPIST-1. These measurements will help to better constrain the models of the internal structure of the planets orbiting this star, and thus determine, among other things, the proportion of water in their mass.
